How Nurses Can Eat Healthy While at Work
Busy. Always busy. That’s the best way to describe a nurse. That is why most nurses don’t have time to eat the healthiest meals. Nurses are busy focusing on the patient’s health to the point their own is set aside. This should not be the case though, as we nurses are also human who need to mind our health aspects.
Since nurses play an important role in the healthcare world, it is important that they take care of themselves as well.
So, despite being busy, how can a nurse be sure enough to eat healthy while at work performing the duty? We have some tips for you. Read on.
Don’t skip eating or drinking. Skipping a break or waiting until the shift ends will only expand the hunger a nurse feels. This results to binge eating. Better to have a snack or water bottle handy so you can take a bite or sip when hunger or thirst hit you.
Keep foods high in protein and carbs. Nurses have only a few minutes to munch on something. And having a snack that is rich in protein and carbs will surely keep up with the hunger nurses felt. You can stock up on candy bar with nut protein to suffice the nutrients you need.
Leftovers will be of great help. Create special meal on your days off and don’t be shy to bring the leftovers to work. Combine this with a fresh fruit and you’re good to go again, nurses.
Make healthier sandwiches. Nurses can also build their own sandwich if the vendo machine at the workplace don’t offer much healthy options to eat. Go for whole grain breads, low-fat mayo and lower fat meats. Top it off with more veggies than meat.
Plan when to treat yourself. It is not bad at all to indulge yourself lavish food sometimes. But better plan when would that be so you won’t end up craving for more. Make it between a week or so of healthy foods before and after.
Nurses can eat healthy while at work. All it takes is planning, healthy food selection and maintaining the balance.
