Travel nursing is a nursing industry that supplies registered nurses that are paid to travel and work in a hospital setting in temporary nursing positions for a limited amount of time. Travel nurses typically work in a certain duration in one area, and move to another place depending on where they are needed. This concept is designed to address the nursing shortage problem in certain areas.
Travel nursing may also refer to a variety of travel healthcare positions like physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and even doctors and dentists.
Among the come ons of travel nursing opportunities include relatively high compensation, accommodations, health care benefits, travel expenses, professional growth and development, and personal adventure. Although travel nurses are required to have all the skills taught in a nursing program, they are also expected to be adaptable, with excellent communication skills and team players.
General Qualifications to Become a Travel Nurse:
- One to two years of nursing career.
- After becoming an RN, an individual can choose to specialize in an area of interest such as acute care, surgery, pediatrics or cardiac care by getting a master’s degree in nursing (MSN).
- Experience in a fast-paced environment may serve you better simply because of the similarly fast-paced nature of travel nursing. In general, the more varieties of clinical experience you have, the better for your travel nursing career.
- Being an independent-type and flexible is a big advantage.
