Military Nursing

Salutation is not just reserved for military men you know! Nurses who work in military camps or with soldiers and high-rank military officials deserve a salute, too!

The Basics of Military Nursing

In military nursing, registered nurses provide nursing care to military officials from any branch of military service. Military nurses are on-call during peace and war-time and are expected to form triage (arrangement of patient in terms of severity of their condition to be able to efficiently supply medication), treat wounded soldiers and nurse patients when assigned abroad.

How You Can be a Military Nurse

If you are interested to be a military nurse, you must have a nursing diploma, whether an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Some nurses who plan to become a military nurse are able to get financial support from the branch of military they want to serve, that is in exchange of their nursing service  for a specified duration (years).

You must pass your nursing board exam (NCLEX-RN in the United States) and, if you have not reached out to a branch of military to offer your service, enlist in one.

Where Military Nurses are often needed

Military nurses can travel around the world where soldiers are deployed! They may be assigned land-based abroad or sea-based in ships and vessels.

Perks of Being a Military Nurse

Once enlisted as part of the military, the military nurse may get the chance to enrol and pursue a higher academic degree in nursing. Stipends, scholarships and loans may be provided, and also salary while you study but on active duty.

As mentioned, military nurse may be assigned abroad, and this gives military nurses a chance to travel, that is depending on their nursing specialty.
