The Guide to a Nurses’ Winning Resume
Writing a successful resume to market effectively the nursing skills is indeed an important factor in order to have that dream job. With the many applicants out there, it is imperative that one should be defined by their resume.
The winning resume should include the following which may vary according to one’s certifications and more importantly, the experience. Always include pieces of information you feel is needed for the interviewer to see how interested you are with your application.
- Name and address
- Contact numbers
- Professional experience profile
- Updated gained experiences
- Skills
- Education and certificates received
- Clinical experiences
- Honors or awards received
- Trainings attended
One major area looked into is the nursing experience. This is where a candidate is considered and based on the enumerated years of service is valued by the interviewer. This is also called the laurel of a nurse eyeing for that position in a hospital or clinic.
For new nurses who have just graduated, they can strengthen their resume by specifically highlighting their areas of interest and how they have done during their internship. Another factor can be adding volunteer work showing how interested the nurse is doing community service. They should also avoid the doubts in their minds that they do not stand a chance versus an experienced nurse. Confidence should also be shown when writing your powerful resume.
Experienced and tenured nurses should not over expect that having longer years of valued experience will automatically enable them to be chosen. Remember that there are younger and more experienced nurses out there who can give them a good competition. Of course, showing how much knowledge and experienced you have earned during your working years will be given consideration.
For nurses who are getting closer to their retirement years, they can still have an edge by applying for lesser workload or even a higher position wherein they can teach and guide the new nurses. It will be like sharing their best experiences and putting themselves in a position where they will be regarded on a senior level.
Once all details are included, let someone read it and assess on how they see your resume. Is it too much selling yourself for the job? Or too passive showing more experience and skills are needed before applying? In any case, the objective of your resume is to present yourself well and get that dream job.
The winning resume should tell it all. Once the interviewer finds that unique characteristic on the paper then it will be the nurse’s advantage point and explain more and emphasize why it is on the resume.
