Phone Interview Tips for Travel Nurses
Due to time constraints and physical distances, travel nursing job interviews are usually conducted by telephone. Although you may not be meeting directly with your interviewer, you can still put your best foot forward.
Here are some tips to ace your travel nurse interview:
- Before the interview, do some research about your potential employer and keep your resume and notes about the employer handy to help you find a quick response to them during the call.
- Have a pen and paper handy for note taking.
- Turn call-waiting off to avoid interruptions.
- Look for a quiet surrounding. No pets, kids, music and any kind of loud noise.
- Stop whatever you're doing. Don't chew, drink or smoke.
- Smile when you start talking to help set you at ease and make you sound more positive and vibrant. Act like the healthcare professional that you are. Your skills and background are already known to the interviewer, your personality and character is what should come through.
- Respond and focus on why you’re the right travel nurse they're looking for. Give short but sheer answers.
- Ask questions. It is okay to ask about the travel nursing details you're applying for like schedules, operations and the environment of the assignment. This shows your interest to the position you're applying for.
- Before the phone interview ends, remember to thank the interviewer and ask about what the next steps are in the application process.
- Follow up with the recruiter after the interview to show your interest in the travel nursing assignment and eager to move forward in the process.
Yes, telephone interviews do not require you to dress properly to look presentable but the phone interview is still an interview and you must be on top of your professional game. Best of luck!
