How to Deal With Workplace Stress
All nurses may agree that workplace stress is normal — but you can do something to shield yourself from the excessive job tensions. Here's help taking charge.
1. Reduce stress by taking care of yourself outside duty. Start by paying attention to your physical and emotional health. While you are physically away from the hospital/health care center, free yourself from job-related worries and focus on things that can lift your mood. Make sure to get enough sleep and eat healthy foods to regenerate both your body and mind.
2. You are responsible for all your actions and reactions. Instead of reacting and giving in to your frustration or anger, cool down quickly. Breathe in as if you are sipping through a straw and breathe normally through your nose.
3. Prioritize your priorities. Don't over commit yourself. This applies to matters inside and outside work.
4. Take your breaks regularly to clear your mind. Step away from your station or desk for lunch to catch some breather.
5. Avoid negative attitudes and negative people. A healthy and positive mindset cultivates a social-friendly workplace.
6. Learn better communication skills to ease and improve your relationships with co-workers.
7. Learn to cope up with the challenges with humor. Laugh is a healthy stress buster but avoid mixing too much play with work to maintain good performance.
Remember that as the stress level goes up, your productivity goes down. Don't let tensions affect your performance. You have the power to move through the problems that burn you out.
