Basic Tools of a Nurse
Nurses in the course of doing their job need a number of medical items to be able to do their job well. These nursing materials differ depending on one's expertise and job description. However, there are a certain things that all nurses must have at all times. Here's a list of a nurse must-haves:
Stethoscope. Nurses need to have a stethoscope. According to how it is use, this device comes in different varieties (e.g. pediatric stethoscope), colors and hues. Some stethoscopes have an attached timer while others are disposable. Nurses should choose the one that would be most useful for them.
Blood Pressure Device. Nurses need a blood pressure device (or a sphygmomanometer) because a normal blood pressure indicates that a patient’s health is good and stable. If the patient is recuperating, then it will suggest that he is quickly recovering.
Therefore a nurse needs to check the blood pressure of a patient regularly. There are digital blood pressures now and they are easier to use and more convenient to carry.
Pad and Paper. Nurses must always have notebook or a pen with him/her. The nurse needs this to be able to record all relevant information about the patients like assessments, evaluations, and pending interventions. A penlight and a durable pen is recommended.
Bandage scissors. Bandage scissors should always be at a nurse’s bag for it served various uses. It is essential in simple medical procedures such as bandaging or dressing changes, etc.
